From a volume commemorating the 100th anniversary of Goldsboro’s First African Baptist Church, a memorial to John and Cora Reid Sampson:
Cora Reid was the daughter of Henry S. and Georgianna Artis Reid and granddaughter of Adam T. and Frances Seaberry Artis.
Thank you. I was once a member of First African when I lived in Goldsboro. 1982
I am the grand daughter of John and Cora Sampson. So many wonderful memories of my grandparents. I thank God for the legacy they left behind. I am instilling that same legacy in my kids and grandkids. I am proud to be a part of a family with such a heritage. Many heartfelt memories as I think of the journey. I am happy to still be on this journey with Him as my shepherd!
Hello, cousin! Thanks so much for the comment! Do you know if other photos of John and Cora Sampson, or of Cora’s parents Henry and Georgianna Artis Reid exist?
I am the granddaughter of Brodie Sampson and came across site while researching my family tree. Would u be willing to share any information you have in the family?
I have posted (in summary form, of course) just about everything I have on Adam Artis and his children, as well as his siblings and likely cousins. Please search the blog for “Artis” to pull up these posts. I’m happy to answer any specific questions you might have after you read them. Thanks!
Thanks! Will do! I got excited and sent the message before I began reading. I wasn’t for sure if this site was still active.
Yes. I don’t post as often as I once did, but it’s still active.
I do have some of my grandmother. However, I knew very little about her mom and dad but have always been interested in learning more about my family heritage. I am at work and just stumble somehow across this today as I was searching my home church history. I find this all interesting. Now that we have connected some what it will be awesome to keep the connection. Dee
Yes! There lots here about Adam Artis and his children, and some about the Reids as well. They were another large free family of color.
